My tomatoes have fat green leaves but few branches and barely any blooms.

Some tomatoes should not be allowed to branch. Indeterminate tomatoes should be suckered. Determinate tomatoes should be "bushy". Large, lush leaves might be a sign of too much nitrogen, leading to reduction of fruit production.
