Q.My Staghorns Look Sick

Zone 32136 Flagler Beach, Fl. | Anonymous added on April 14, 2021 | Answered

I planted them in sphagnum moss in an orchid box…they actually look worse than the photos…very droopy, wilting and dull…almost a grey green. I have them in a covered area where they get light but not direct sun. Can you please help me.

after a period of time, the roots of these ferns can become dry in the inner root ball, even though it is getting the usual amount of water. You may want to try dipping the root ball into water for a minute, making sure the roots get a good, quick soaking. Another common problem is that they require a lot of light. Perhaps your plant needs some indoor lighting to get it through the winter.
