My potted outdoor fig has started to drop its leaves and they have turned yellow.

Yellow leaves normally signal stress, likely a watering issue. Those in pots require additional watering, at least twice a day, in temps over 85 F. This article may help: [1]

I had the same problem with my fig; I was overwatering, and also moved it from full sun all day to filtered sun (95+ degrees was stressing it) It is now growing new leaves and looks much better.
