Hebe Plants

Q.my hebe tree and surrounding plants are covered with a seriously sticky substance. Any ideas?

the leaves on my tree, the flowers and leaves in pots near the tree and quite a large area surrounding them are covered in a very sticky substance which is making the leaves curl up and die. On the back of some of the leaves are masses of, which looks like, eggs, very minute, and some strange bugs about 15mm long. Like small caterpillars. Can you suggest a way of getting rid of it, and indeed what it is?

Sounds like you have an Aphid infestation. The sticky substance is called Honeydew.
