My Hawthorn (Rosea Flore Pleno) Is Covered In Lichen

I wonder if there is treatment available to help this tree? It is planted in a stoney area and has been a bit poorly for a couple of years. All the branches are covered in tufts of Lichen. Sorry I can’t send a photo but hope you can give me some help.

Lichens and trees most often enjoy a symbiotic relationship. However, if there is a noticeable overgrowth of lichen, it may mean that the tree is either under some kind of distress or that it is simply very old.
