My Gardenia Is Not Blooming

My gardenia is not blooming. It is watered weekly, at the base. It is healthy and green, but has not bloomed this year. It is very bushy, so should it be pruned or what? It is in a pot since I am in Zones 3-4.

It sounds like it may have too much nitrogen. Give it some bone meal for phosphorous, which will help offset the nitrogen.

You can prune it back by up to 1/3 but pruning will not help it with blooming.
