Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a green leaf fig tree. Every year it grows beautiful but for some reason this year my branches are brown and and no leaves have grown yet. This tree is very sentimental and I really need your help as per what to do. It is possible that your tree sustained a winter injury during the harsh winter we just endured (see https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/tips-for-saving-cold-damaged-plants.htm [1]). Was this tree wrapped/covered during winter? I would recommend giving your tree a scratch test per the guidelines in the following article: http://www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/how-to-do-a-scratch-test/ [2] A scratch test will help determine if your tree is still alive. With a scratch test, “green is good” and means there is hope of recovery. If there are no signs of life, I would wait several weeks (just to be sure) and if nothing changes then I would cut the tree down to the base – the roots are likely still alive in the ground and will send up new shoots this summer.
