My Desert Rose Is a Bonsai but Does Not Branch

My desert rose is a bonsai but does not branch. Can I force it to? It is 12 months old and 15cm (6″) high.

If the plant is only 6″ tall, it is still considered a seedling. It will branch as it ages.
