Q.My dark green conifer has produced tiny red flowers, what is it called?

Zone uk | Anonymous added on March 25, 2020 | Answered

I have a variety of conifers in my garden. This year two very dark green conifers have produced a mass of tiny red flowers on the bracts/branches. The tree has upright bracts, and looks rather untidy as they grow at irregular intervals and I thought I would need to trim the branches to give a more conical shape. No one I have asked has seen anything like them. They are approx. 12 years old and healthy and hardy. Fairly slow growing. They are now nearly 6ft tall. Any clues? Thanks.

It may be a Norway Spruce that produces strobili, or small cones. I would contact your local nursery who might know the exact species.
