Q.My Calla Lily Did Not Bloom Outside Last Season Or All Winter Indoors. What Do I Do With It Now?

Zone Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada | mctuokkola@hotmail.com added on March 24, 2021 | Answered

I received a calla lily in bloom as a gift. After the foliage died I stored the bulbs and planted them in a container outside the next spring. They took a while to sprout, but I did get some foliage over the summer, no blooms though. I brought the plant indoors for the winter and it continued to put out new leaves but still no blooms. I think it didn’t receive enough sunlight over the winter months. (I am in zone 3, Northwestern Ontario) Now that it is almost April (still snowing here), I’m wondering if I should try to keep it alive until summer and try to put it out again to see if it will bloom, or stop watering and force it to go dormant before re-starting the bulbs later this spring. I should mention it has developed an infestation of spider mites in the past week or two and is not looking very healthy. Thanks for your input!
