Q.My Calla Lily Blossoms Look Ragged, Not The Perfectly Formed Tubular Shape.
I have yellow calla lilies. they are densely planted close to each other. They often grow up to 3-4 feet. From a distance, they provide some badly needed color, but up close, they are ragged and definitely not showy! I live at the beach. They are planted next to a forested area which grows back from the sand dunes. They have “overtaken” my small garden area. TODAY, I deadheaded alot of them and cut them back to about 2 feet. Will they put out new flowers? After blooming, the leaves turn brown and they fall over and die. Not a pretty sight.

It sounds like they need to be dug up and divided. They need loose, well draining soil, which they aren't getting in a densely planted situation. Water and fertilize while actively growing. When the blooming period ends, the plant normally dies back. Keep it as dry as possible while it is going dormant.
