Q.My Blazing Star Is Falling Over And The Leaves Are Turning Brown. What Could Be Wrong?

Zone Hawthorne, NJ 07506 | Anonymous added on June 23, 2023 | Answered

We just planted this in May. We have had quite a bit of rain in May and part of early June. I’ve also sprayed for deer and rabbits. The tops are curling over. I have stakes around them loosely to keep them from falling over. I could actually pull some right out of the ground. What can we do to save this?

The roots may have been oversaturated with rain. Is the soil they are in well draining? If not, you can side dress with amendments to help in the future when you have a lot of rain. Make sure the soil is dried out before you water again.

The spray you used for rabbits and deer also may have contributed to the leaf curl.
