Q.bird of paradise blooms wither and die
My bird of paradise blooms wither and die before they fully open. How can I prevent this from happening? The plant is about 8 years old, healthy in other ways. It has been fertilized and trimmed around the edge of the plant, leaving about 6 inches of the stalk. It is in full sun.
Your Bird Of Paradise does not shed it's spent flowers and must be dead headed to keep the plant healthy and producing more flowers.
Cut the spent flower off as far down into the plant as possible. Tidy up any old leaves around the base of the plant.
Leaving spent flowers to long on the plant will deter more flowers and invite insects and fungus to the plant.
The flowers should last about a week.
