my azalea has mildew like stains on the branches

My azalea has mildew like stains on all the branches which are white in colour. What is it? How can I treat it?

This is lichen. It is not harmful to the plant at all. But if you would like to remove it, this article will help:

Actually, I see that you listed this in houseplants. If your azalea is a houseplant, it might be powdery mildew. This will help with that, if you think this is the issue:
