Q.My 4 Year Old Cherry Trees Sets Fruit Then After A Few Weeks The Cherries Are Gone Along With The Stems. What Is Going On?
My garden is in Vancouver, WA near Portland OR. I have 10 different cherry tree varieties in full sun that flower well, pollinate each other, and have set fruit that last 2 years, but then all the fruit disappears. There is not even one cherry on them. My neighbor has a large cherry tree 150 feet away from my trees that is currently loaded with cherries. My other neighbor’s cherry trees flower and have fruit on them I sprayed Malathion for insects when they were in bloom. I sprayed a chemical repellent once to try and keep birds, raccoons, and squirrels off of the trees. Surely when the fruit is tiny they do not taste good to birds and squirrels, of which we have many. I have not seen any small fruit on the ground around the trees. And even more strange, I have 2 cherry trees in large pots in a different part of the yard which actually have some ripe cherries on them. We had a cool, wet winter and spring so the ground was never dry. What the heck is going on? Why are my in-ground cherry trees the only ones in the neighborhood with no fruit? I have asked a local expert on fruit and fruit trees and he could not come up with an answer. Please give me hope.

It sounds like squirrels and possibly birds are eating them. However, I don't know why they eat your cherry tree fruit and not the neighbor's.
