lemon tree looks like it’s on its last leg

My 30+ yr old lemon tree looks like it’s on its last leg! The tree is 2/3 blackened and looks dead. The other 1/3 is not and produces lemons still, so I’m hoping to save it. I just moved into this house and it hasn’t been cared for in years. Do you think it’s possible to save it or should I cut it down and start over? If I do save it, how do I go about it? I know next to nothing about lemon trees so I have no idea what to do. Thanks!

A lemon tree either dwarf or standard lifespan can be 50 years or more if it is well cared for.
A tree that has has little care and not pruned or maintained may of coarse not live as long.

Your tree may be infected with Sooty Mold.
If the tree is not leafing in the blackened areas, it may have killed that part of the tree.
Sooty Mold can be treated, though a large tree is more difficult.
If you feel you would like to try to save the remaining living part of the tree, you may want to call in a professional to treat the tree with fungicides.
Remember to keep in mind that a loss in the garden makes for new opportunities.
