Q.My 3 yr old lilac bush is blooming and dying in sections at same time

Zone Chesterfield, MO, 63017 | Anonymous added on May 9, 2020 | Answered

The leaves came first this year and the buds kept growing and it bloomed 3 days ago. Since blooming I notice 3 sections of bush where leaves are withering and dying and the blooming panicles are turning brown. I live in St. Louis county, MO and we have had so much rain this spring, but my garden is in full sun and on hill so I know it’s not holding excess water. I fed phosphorous 3 days ago and 3 weeks prior added a layer of organic soil around entire garden then mulched. I don’t see bugs but if it’s ill I don’t know what to look for. I’m really sad about this as my gardens are my pride and joy. Can you help?

It could be bacterial blight. This article should help:
