Rooting Christmas Cactus

My 3 year old Christmas cactus was outside from June through September under a pine tree, as it was last year. I noticed pine needles had dropped onto the cactus. Recently after a beautiful blooming, one of the large branches had fallen off. How do I root this branch and should I try to remove as many of the pine needles from the top of the soil as I can? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes, you will probably want to remove the pine needles. As for rooting the branch, this article should help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/cacti-succulents/christmas-cactus/how-to-propagate-and-plant-christmas-cactus.htm [1]
