Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comWe just had landscaping done in your yard and there is shredded wood mulch around the plants. There are grayish to white mushrooms popping up all over the place and I am worried that they may be poisonous to our dogs. So far I have been picking them when they pop up, but it is a pain. What is a safe way to eliminate them without hurting our plants or our dogs?

The best way to eliminate them is to remove
what is causing them to grow. They are actually beneficial to the lawn so they can be left alone, however I would be concerned about the dogs, too. This article gives clues as to what is causing the mushrooms. I suspect it is the new landscaping. You are probably keeping it well watered.

Just to add some information… This is a Coprinopsis. There are too many in the genus to pin down an exact ID.
They are not toxic, nor will they make your dogs sick, so you can rest easy.
These happen to be extraordinarily beneficial to your lawn, as they are consuming animal dung and converting it into nutrients for the soil.
Picking them will help spread the spores better than they can left alone, since it jars them and allows spores to travel longer distances since they are being carried. Still, you are doing no damage either way, and your dogs will probably eat them. This particular mushroom will be considered safe for your pups. 😉
