Q.Multiple small shoots from tree lilies

Last year I planted 3 tree lily bulbs and they all produced 1 large shoot, grew tall and flowered well. I overwintered them in their large container.

This year, one has produced 1 large shoot, but the other 2 have produced multiple small shoots. What could have caused this and will it occur every year now?

I would guess that the bulb is multiplying, producing small bulbs within the larger one. You may get a hardier plant; you may want to separate the bulbs and plant them separately if they seem strong enough to do so.
