multi-colored zucchini

I have a pile where I dump old containers and this year a robust vine sprung up. It looked like a squash type of leaf and yellow flower. So I waited and zucchini like fruit developed, but every one has a wide yellow/orange band around the vine end. I thought maybe gourds, but they keep getting bigger like zucchini do. Do I have a cross of some sort? Are they edible?

The seeds likely were from a hybrid plant so they will not resemble the parent plant.
It may be some version of a squash type plant.
