Q.Moving Kiwi to a Larger Trellis

Zone Mountain View, CA | Pinkaboo added on May 5, 2017 | Answered

I have a pair of kiwi vines in my backyard. I started with just tomato cages for them to climb on but the female is quickly overgrowing the height of the tomato cage. I bought a much larger trellis (biggest one they had at the nursery) for the pair but I’m unsure if I should just put it next to the existing tomato cage or if I can unwrap the vine and move it to the larger trellis without hurting it. Any advice is much appreciated!

If you vine is actively growing I would not remove the first trellis. This would best be done when the plant is dormant.

I would tuck the new trellis next to the vine.
