Q.moving house with orchids
How do I move house with orchids? Can I dry out the roots and then re-plant at new home or do I need the living plant? Can anyone help?
How to pack or move your orchids will depend greatly on the distance and time that the plants will be in transit.
If you are moving the plants yourself, you can wrap each pot and orchid with newspaper and place in boxes. Pack them tightly together to eliminate tipping or falling. This will lessen the breakage.
It is possible to remove the orchids from the pots and pack dry. This method should be used if it is not possible to keep them in pots and it will not be more then a couple of days.
Orchids can be placed in bags with a small amount of damp sphagnum moss wrapped around the roots.
Shipping companies will ship plants and have specifics on how to pack your plants and may even pack them for you.
You will want to send them overnight and make sure someone will be there to except the boxes and unpack.
