Moss Problem

I have moss everywhere! In flowerbeds, lawns and in what was the vegetable garden. I want to turf the veg plot but the ground is covered in moss. How can I get rid of this permanently pleeeease? The soil must be good, my father put loads of farmyard compost on it every year when growing veggtables. We live on a hill, which could be part of the problem, although it can get very dry too, depending on weather conditions.
