Mosquitoes

I heard that geranium plants help with not having mosquitoes in a person’s yard. Is this true? Does it matter if they are red or white or other colors? I live in a high frost area, so I imagine they would have to be planted yearly. What other plants do you suggest? I live in Roseville, CA (near Sacramento, CA). Our summers are very hot.

There is one variety of geranium that has been reputed to repel mosquitoes, but many gardeners have found that it is not effective:
