Moses in a Boat plant

We recently moved and my Moses in a boat is starting to droop and leaves turning yellow/brown. I found some small mushrooms, brown in color, not too long after we moved. This plant was thriving in a warm house sitting in the sunlight. We are now in an apartment that is air conditioned. The plant sat in an east window and now is in a north or south window without direct sunlight. I absolutely love this plant, but it’s not looking good. It has lost 3 leaves in the last week. What can I do to save it?

It’s likely acclimating to the new environment and may be a bit on the cool side, which may be keeping the soil too moist and spawning fungal growth. You might need to relocate the plant to another location where it will mimic the growing conditions you previously had it. Cooler and darker would certainly account for mushrooms! Can you move the plant to a brighter window? If not, can you add some electric light? And have you cut back on the watering? You see, a basic rule of plants is the less light available, the less water is used. So now Mr. Moses not only has to rearrange its cellular functions to compensate for the loss of light, but its roots are too wet besides – he is very stressed. So if you can increase the light, you should be on the road to recovery. And cut back on the water; don’t water again until the soil has aerated to the point where it feels cool and barely damp. As for the mushrooms, don’t worry too much about them, but if you want to, dig them out of the soil with a spoon.
