mosaic virus on Passiflora Caerulea

My passion flower was growing well in a large pot on my patio until I had to cut it back (patio was being re-laid.) New shoots appeared but then it began to sicken, leaves curling and yellowing. I fed it with sulphate of potash and added new compost but all the leaves disappeared and the plant was left over winter. New shoots began to appear but I decided to get rid of the plant incase it had mosaic virus, which I found out they’re prone to. I’ve bought a lovely Clematis to replace it and am worried about putting this in the pot with any of the existing compost. It is a very large pot and the thought of having to get rid of the soil is daunting. Does the virus contaminate the soil?
Thanks

If you are doing a new planting, always start with a cleaned container and new commercial potting soil.
It’s the best way to start out the investment of a new plant.
