Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comDuring the week of August 20th, we experienced some intense periods of rain. One Mexican Sunflower plant, at least 7.5′ tall, leaned all the way to ground. We got to it a couple of days later, staked it, and gave it some water. When this occurs, can the plant survive? Is it probable? We would like to see its flowers bloom in September when the Monarch butterflies pass through on their way to Mexico. Thank you…

It will likely survive, but it will help to add soil or mulch around the base to cover up any exposed roots, or anything that needs to be below the soil line. Staking it will be the best option until you can build the soil around it.
It is best to make sure that it is planted deep enough, and kept topped off with soil as it erodes, or compacts.
