Q.mars navel orange
What are your thoughts on growing this navel orange in a large container? I live in the San Antonio area.
From my research, you should be able to have good success in containerizing a Mars Navel in your growing zone.
A large container, such as a whiskey barrel or 20-gallon pot will work.
Make sure there are adequate drainage holes on the bottom of the pot, you will likely need to add more then the container comes with.
Lifting the container from direct contact from the ground is important for drainage.
A wheeling cart or trolley is a good idea, the tree can be moved into a sheltered area if the weather or temperatures drop too low.
You will need to pay attention to nutrition and watering needs more closely with a container tree.
