Mandevilla Vine Wintering in New Orleans

In New Orleans where intermittently we have soft winter freezes, I want to grow Mandevillas in planters on my balcony but I do not want to make the investment if I cannot ‘winterize’ them in their planters to withstand the soft freezes. What is your advice/opinion in trying to be successful in leaving Mandevillas ‘living’ outside during such soft freezes in our New Orleans climate?

If temps fall below 50 F, the mandevilla plant will die. You should bring the plants indoors if this happens. That said, you may also wrap the planter in bubble wrap and cover the plants when harsher weather is expected. Keep in mind, however, that there is no guarantee this will work. Protection indoors is often best.
