Magnolia Tree Disease

Hi,

I have a large mature Magnolia Tree out in my front yard. Other than many Woodpecker holes on the bark of the tree it seemed pretty healthy. Recently however I noticed increased dead wood drop. Upon examination I noticed a white coating on the bark. Please see pictures for reference. I really don’t want to lose this tree to some pest or disease, Please help!

Thanks!
Sam

I am unable to zoom in on your photos to see details, but it appears that the tree may have ‘magnolia scale’, a sucking insect pest. If so, this may be a good time for treatment that targets the ‘crawler’ stage of the insect life cycle when they are vulnerable.
