Lost my Rose of Sharons to Winter kill

Planted two Rose of Sharon bushes late last summer. Unfortunately, the flowerbed faces west (front of the house) and it looks like the harsh and icy winter winds have done my two plants in. They are each about 3 ft. tall and do not show any sign of a leafing out yet, and it is June now. I have cut 1 inch off each branch but nothing happened so far, so I am thinking that I will cut the bushes down to 6 inches like one does with the Roses in April in our area and see what happens. What is your thought on that, please?

I would prune them down too and see what happens. You might try mixing some Super Thrive and Root Stimulator together in a two gallon watering can full of water and give each of them the full two gallons of the mix. Do that 3 or 4 times when watering is needed, if that does not get them started, well, they are likely totally gone…. 🙁
