Loss of Giant Pin Oak Tree Limb

We have a pin oak that is about 13 ft. at the base, then about 10 ft. up, it split into two large sections. One of the sections split away from the tree and now there is a giant section of the trunk missing and half of the tree is still standing. I would like to know if we can save it and what we have to do to help the open wound on the tree heal. Our tree guy says the tree is saved, but with so much of the trunk missing, I am worried with it being so tall (50 plus ft. ) that not enough base can support what is left of the tree.
