There are lots of choices for your pots. You can do flowers, herbs and even some vegetables. You can create some perennial containers (plants will return each year), all annuals or a combination. (If you plant perennials, it's best to choose plants in hardiness zone 5 so they will survive in pots during winter.)

Some of my favorite annuals for pots are Big begonias, annual plumbago and 'Orange Marmalade' crossandra. For fall color I like mums in containers. Perennials that do well in pots include asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed), coreopsis, summer bulbs like lilies and daylilies.
