Looking For A List Of Which Varieties Of Veggies Grow Best In My Zone 8b.

I live in California City Ca and I am trying to pick the best varieties so that I can get the best harvest. With so many to choose from in any given catalog, I get overwhelmed trying to pick. I know smaller is better and fewer days to mature is best. But there is also the harsh climate to consider. I just can’t find a list or a book that has good suggestions so any advice is greatly appreciated.
