lilies

Today I visited my birthplace and childhood home. Since this may be the last visit before it is to be sold, I decided to dig up a group of lilies. I’m not sure the name of them. They have been there for many decades, growing strong outside the bedroom window. I’m in South Boston, VA. It’s very cold here lately (42°F). What should I do? I hope I can save them.

Trim the stem/foliage back to about 3 inches from above the bulb, or tuber, and store in a cool, dry place until spring. For example, a cardboard box in the basement is a good option. You may also place them in peat moss or newspaper as long as it remains dry.
