Lilac Bush Diseases And Harmful Pests

Question

My young lilac bush was affected by brown leaf curling and die off last summer. This spring only 1/3 of the bush survived last year’s problem. I have sprayed it with sulpher spray and dormant oil. What caused this and will the lilac bush survive. Thank you.

This article should be helpful in determining the disease or insect problem. Powdery mildew is the most common problem of lilacs. Have you pruned the tree? It may need a rejuvenation pruning.
