Lichen

I have quite a large azalea whose branches are covered in lichen, which is gradually killing the plant. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?

The lichen is not likely killing the plant, but is rather a symptom of something else hurting the plant. Lichen is normally especially attracted to sick and dying plants.

What kind of symptoms is the plant displaying? Yellow, wilting, etc?
