Q.Levelling and Firming Up My New Seeded Lawn
I have had modifications recently done to the rear of my house due to my wife’s ill health – ramps and wheelchair access. This totally ruined my wife’s lawn. So I removed all the grass and put down new top soil, from 6 inches to 4 inches and seeded. The grass is now at a height of about 4 inches. But when I stepped onto the lawn, I sank down about 3 inches, as the earth is so soft.
I realise now the errors I made. I should have rolled the newly laid top soil to firm it up and level it. How can I resolve this problem as the grass has grown in lovely but is to soft to walk on and is not level in some places. I would appreciate any help to put this issue right. As you can gather my gardening skills are non existing. I just want to have a lovely lawn for my wife as she loves her garden.

A roller should be ok to use on the lawn (you should be able to rent one from a local hardware store). The roller will not kill the grass and should firm the lawn up ahead of you while you walk with it.
