There could be a problem with the soil or inadequate watering. They don't like clay soil (you can amend it with compost) and the soil should be kept moist until the plant is established. Mulching will help keep the soil moist. It also does best in full sun (six to eight hours) but will tolerate afternoon shade. Too much intense sun can brown leaves as can too much fertilizer or a fungal disease. It will probably do better once it becomes established.
