Leaf Brown in Center

Question

I have a new plant in a large pot I bought last week. I used new soil and have been caring for it as it was directed. Now in the last few days, some of leaves have been turning brown from the center out. The plant has just flowered for the first time today. I would like to know what is causing this to happen.

It could be dry in the center in which case you could try soaking the pot in water. However, your problem could also be due to plant wilt (otherwise known as verticillium wilt), a fungal infection in the soil. While there is no treatment, you could try fertilizing to strengthen plants or repotting with a fresh, clean potting soil, inspecting the roots prior to replanting. Discard any dead or dying plants.

We need more information to give you a good answer. What kind of plant is it?
That’s always important to know. Then, do you mean the whole plant is turning brown from the center out, or the individual leaves are turning brown from the center out. And did you just get it from the store? If so, plants fresh from the grower don’t need either new soil or fertilizer; in fact they shouldn’t be fertilized for at least 6 months. If you did just purchase it, I would return it; most reputable plant stores have a return policy. New plants should not be getting fungus, insects, or whatever this one is doing.
