Lawns

Me and my SO have finally gotten a house with a garden but, unfortunately, the grass is a mess. I added 2 pictures showing the state of the soil (for what soil there is), which is mostly just stones and bricks and makes the next problem very odd. It turns into a swamp when it rains.

The stones and bricks I’m guessing is all builder’s waste and it’s not even buried deep, about a half inch maybe an inch at the deepest, leaving it feeling really soft to stand on (you leave footprints). I have so far aerated it, tried to get rid of as much moss as I can (only me who can do it due to disabilities in family and a baby to look after), and laid 3 big boxes of grass seed – but none of that has done anything.

Does anyone have any idea how I can sort it out some>? Thanks for reading.

If you see evidence of construction waste in the soil this can be one of the causes of poor drainage.
It’s very difficult to know what is going on under the grass to topsoil without excavating the area.

Leveling the property and providing drainage for rainwater is important and may need to be done by larger equipment then a homeowner has.
I would suggest contacted a professional landscape co.
