Q.Lawn Fungus?

Anonymous added on October 13, 2011 | Answered

I recently discovered a low growing, very dark green (or black) broad leaved fungus-like plant in my lawn. It is prolific but easily removable to show a white underbelly with fine hair like roots? What is it? Help would be appreciated.

This actually sounds more like some type of moss rather than fungus. Nonetheless, these articles should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/lawn-care/lgen/grass-fungus.htm
