Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI had a thriving Lavatera. This year at flowering time it started to droop and die. I cut it right back and it does have new foliage appearing. Does anyone know what happened?

It could have been several things. A fungus or a root problem sounds most likely as when you cut it back, it started to recover.
