Q.Large Rose Bush Root Broken
We were moving an old rose bush from my mother-in-laws home. Im not sure how long it had been there, but judging by the size of the roots many years. I thought it was a root from a nearby tree. Once i realized it was the rose bush I was trying to remove as much of it as possible but ended up breaking it. Its bigger round than my finger and longer than my arm. Can I propagate from a root? Ive had no luck finding an answer online.

I have not had much luck over the years getting such roots to grow. If the rosebush was a grafted rose, then the root would not be the same rosebush and blooms as the one you moved. The grafted rosebushes have a hardy root stock with another rosebush grafted onto it. If you know that it is an Own root rose, then you could try it. Plant the root into the ground. Cover it with about 5 inches of good mulched garden soil. Water it in well with some water that has both a product called Super Thrive and a root stimulator product, such as Fertilome Root Stimulator. Water the planting area with a fresh batch of this water mix the next 7 to 8 times the soil is dry. This would give it the best possible chance for success. Wish you well in this!
