Q.knock out Roses. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong?
Planted in full sun. No special care or covering. Don’t know how often to water. Started out great in spring, now have issues.
Thanks for sending the photos. Well overall the bushes do not look so bad. Just some growth here and there having issues. Here are three things I would do: 1. Prune out all the diseased looking foliage. Prune it back as far as needed to get rid of the problem canes. 2. Get some Bayer Tree & Shrub granules and apply the granules at the base of the roses per label instructions for shrubs or ornamental shrubs. Work into the soils lightly and water in well. The granules contain both a food for the roses and a systemic product that will help clean up various issues. 3. Water the rosebushes with some water that has both a product called Super Thrive and Root Stimulator in it. Add both to the water as though they are the only additive. Water the roses with this mix the next 4 to 5 times they need watering. Spray all the rosebushes with a fungicide such as the earth friendly Green Cure that is available on-line and in some local garden centers.
Take a look at the fertilizer you are using. If it is high in nitrogen, switch to something more balanced and either organic or organic based. The organics feed the soils home of the roses to build it up thus making for a happy root zone. The top part of the rose will show its pleasure I assure you. Give the roses each a cup of Kelp Meal and water in about a week after the Bayer granules application. Roses love Kelp Meal. Let me know how things go.
