killing mint in flower bed

I have a flower bed where the mint has taken over. I have dug up my flowers and have them in pots to the side. I have dug up a lot of the roots to the mint, and used the vinegar salt mixture to kill the roots I may have missed. Will I have to dig again to make sure I have all the dead roots? And, if so, how long will I have to wait to replant my flowers, or wait till next year?
