Just Planted My Second New Young Fig Tree – About 2 Ft Tall And It’s Gone By The Third Day.

Last year had a fig tree – about 3 years old. late fall I noticed that the new branches were cut down. dead. planted new one this year, about 2 ft tall. gone. planted another one, put a cage around it, gone by the 3rd day. Is something eating it or what?

Are the roots gone too? It no doubt is a critter. A deer, perhaps, or even a gopher in a burrow below.
