Q.Judas Tree

Anonymous added on October 15, 2014 | Answered

Judas tree (Cercis siliquastrum) has taken over my yard. It seems to drop seeds everywhere and grow fast. There are hundreds of tiny, medium, and large plants growing in my yard. The roots are super strong and very long, making it very hard to dig up. And like the Hydra monster that Hercules fights, wherever I cut off the head two more grow back, even when I cut it all the way down to the root. I know some people love this plant, but I can’t stand it. How do I destroy the Judas tree?

Young, single stem saplings can simply be cut off at ground level and they will die. More established saplings that have already branched will need to be cut off and their cuts painted with Roundup to prevent them from regrowing. If you would like to get rid of the tree causing all this, the following article may help (or you can prune it back to help keep its 'seeds' from dropping): https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/how-to-kill-a-tree-killing-trees-in-your-garden.htm
