japanese maple saplings

I live in Long Island, NY facing north. I just potted 3 Japanese maples about 2-3 inches tall. Should I take them inside in the winter months? Which direction [window] would I keep them in?
Or how would I care for them outside? Please advise.
Thank you,
Joan

Most Japanese maples can only go down to zone 5. Some are hardy to 4. This being the case, I would advise to be on the safe side, and bring the trees in on the coldest nights of winter. At least til they are a few years old.

Here is some more information on the care of the tree: https://www.google.com/search?q=japanese+maple+hardiness&oq=japanese+maple+hardiness&aqs=chrome.0.0l4.5915j0j7&client=ubuntu&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 [1]
